Blume Illustrated Mentorship Program

 “Blume Illustrated” is a multi faceted project that encompasses an annual illustration focused magazine and festival. The project is being developed and coordinated by Katoomba based illustrator, visual artist and educator Faye Wilson.

Blume Illustrated magazine will be published anually (and to coincide with the festival tri annually) and aims to harness the mighty talents of Blue Mountains illustrators, writers, creatives and thinkers and thier colleagues in an arts magazine with a difference. Blume Illustrated has the overall objective to highlight and support regional creatives through a beatifully designed publication that provides a much needed voice for truly independant artists and thinkers.

Blume Illustrated magazine features articles on illustrators and creatives, essays, poetry, cartoons and lots more. Issue #2 launches May 23, 2018.

Blume is proud to announce the Blume Illustrated Mentorships Program for 2018/19 in association with Westwords. Blume is also proud to announce that a grant from Blue Mountains Cultural Trust 2019 has provided funds to pay each mentee a package of 30hrs of paid internship to work in the Blume studio during 2019.

Mentorship has been a part of the Blume Projects vision and objectives from the outset.

The mentorship project will be open to submissions from creatives living in the Blue Mountains region who are between the age of 18 and 24 and unpublished, to submit applications and a portfolio of their work to be considered for placement in the following areas:

1: Editorial and Creative Illustration

2: Editorial and Creative Design

3: Editorial and Creative Writing

The applications will be reviewed by a panel consisting of two artists specialising in each area of expertise and Faye Wilson who will then make the final selection for the 2019 program. Mentorships will begin in January 2019.

Winsor & Newton have generously offered their support again in offering each of the three Blume mentors a package of complimentary art materials tailored to their area of interest.

The mentorships will consist of packages of 30 hrs of paid internship and 30 hrs of additional internship, professional support and mentorship during later part on 2018 and 2019, much of this will be carried out in the Blume studio under mentorship from Faye Wilson and Blume creatives. Mentees will be able to use the Writers' Den in Katoomba for private work development and opportunities to receive professional advice and feedback from associated Westwords and Blume’s artists and writer’s.

Applicants should email a current CV as well as cover letter outlining what they expect to gain from a mentorship and the reasons why they feel they would be suitable for the program and a PDF portfolio of three samples of their best creative work in the relevant feild to . Applications close September 28th, 2018 and applicants will be notified if they are part of the short list for an interview before  the start of November.
