Blue Mountains Illustrators Group

Blue Mountain Illustrators formed in 2012 with the objective of linking illustration professionals, enthusiasts and students in the industry living in the Blue Mountains.

The association also has a primary aim of raising awareness of what illustration is, what illustrators do and of the incredibly high standard of illustrators living and working in the Blue Mountains though a program of exhibitions, events and education.

Though the essence of their profession requires collaboration with a range of people from individual clients, designers, art directors, writers and editors to printers and publishers - often working with their studio at home, illustrators are some of the isolated professionals of all.

A highly democratic art - the illustrators art is essentially all about “bringing ideas to light” and is most usually associated with a producing concepts and images for print and digital mediums or other production outcomes. Although many illustrators do exhibit their work it is not central to their work practice as it is with other visual artists.

Blue Mountains Illustrators group has had two group exhibitions to date, one at the Everglades Gallery in Leura in 2013 and an Expose Exhibition entitled Black and Blue - Black Stories from the Blue Mountains” that was the opening event for the Sydney Mountains Writers Festival program in 2014.

The group meets socially and on other matters once a month at the Carrington Hotel Katoomba and is coordinated by Faye Wilson and Michel Streich.
